Almost as important as the kitchen is the dining room or salle à manger.

During the first visit in December 2014 the dining room was very much left as is...the kitchen was far more important at that stage! I also knew I would like to break through from the dining room to the room at the back at a later stage. And thus the salle à manger was given a clean-up, an old French dresser and table I had bought on the internet were assembled and that is where it ended. However, I did have a vision (despite the yellow slippers) for my embossed wallpaper brought from Cape Town!
Au cours de la première visite en décembre 2014, la salle à manger était très bien restée ... la cuisine était beaucoup plus importante à ce stade! Je savais aussi que je voudrais passer de la salle à manger à la pièce à l'arrière à un stade ultérieur. Et donc, la salle à manger a reçu un nettoyage, un buffet et une table que j'avais achetés sur Internet ont été assemblés et c'est là que c'est fini. Cependant, j'ai eu une vision pour mon papier peint en relief apporté de Cap, malgré les pantoufles jaunes!

But then, during the summer of 2015 visit I came across a beautifully restored Victorian fireplace at Moulin de Tintin in Saint-Junien.
Mais, lors de l'été 2015, j'ai rencontré une cheminée victorienne magnifiquement restaurée au Moulin de Tintin à Saint-Junien.
I decided to have the existing wooden fireplace replaced...maybe I wanted to have some of my Cape Town Victorian dining room in France?
J'ai décidé de faire remplacer la cheminée en bois existante... peut-être que je voulais avoir une partie de ma salle à manger victorienne de Cap en France?

By December 2015 my container from Cape Town had arrived and the dining room could be filled with more objects from my previous home...

In March 2016 I had to return to South Africa for 7 weeks to organise my long-stay visa, get an unabridged birth certificate, finalise my medical aid and my contract with the national Department of Basic Education. While I was there lots were happening in Châlus! Amongst other renovations the wall between the dining room and the room at the back was knocked through...
En mars 2016, je devais retourner en Afrique du Sud pendant 7 semaines pour organiser mon visa de long séjour, obtenir un certificat de naissance complet, finaliser mon aide médicale et mon contrat avec le Département national de l'éducation. Pendant que j'étais là, beaucoup se passaient à Châlus! Parmi les autres rénovations, le mur entre la salle à manger et la chambre à l'arrière a été renversé...

Furthermore some cornices I had bought in Epping, Cape Town were to be fitted – not an easy task as they were made of plaster of Paris and quite heavy!
De plus, des corniches que j'avais achetées à Epping, le Cap, n'étaient pas faciles, car elles étaient faites de plâtre de Paris et assez lourdes!

Eventually, upon my return in May 2016, I could start finishing the salle à manger.
Finalement, à mon retour en mai 2016, je pourrais commencer à terminer la salle à manger.
